Bio.

Benaejah Simmonds is an accomplished attorney with a diverse range of experiences in the legal field. Currently serving as a Partner at Louis Law Group in Miami, FL, and combining her prior experience, Mrs. Simmonds has been instrumental in zealously representing insureds in coverage disputes against insurance carriers involving breach of contract and declaratory relief.

Prior to her role at Louis Law Group, Mrs. Simmonds defended multiple carriers in first-party and third-party insurance claims handling cases from inception to trial. In addition, she provided valuable assistance to carriers in complex pre-suit coverage matters, including conducting examinations under oath and preparing coverage opinions. Mrs. Simmonds also specialized in defending premises liability cases involving property owners, lessees, condominium and apartment managers, and valet companies.

Her legal journey also includes serving as an Intern Law Clerk to the Honorable Ursula Ungaro at the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Florida. In this role, Mrs. Simmonds conducted research and drafted letters, orders, and bench memoranda on various civil and criminal matters. Her responsibilities covered FDUPTA and FLSA claims, patent infringement claims, and claims affected by Amendment 782 of U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and its retroactive application.

Mrs. Simmonds’ commitment to the legal profession extends to her experience as a Contract Attorney at Hogan Lovells US LLP in Miami, FL, where she assisted litigation counsel in a multi-million-dollar international arbitration proceeding.

Education-wise, Mrs. Simmonds holds a Juris Doctor from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School, where she received the Certificate of Merit in Legal Research and Writing. She was also a Quarterfinalist for oral arguments and received the Best Brief Award in the Frederick Douglass National Moot Court Competition. Mrs. Simmonds was actively involved in various activities such as serving as Associate Editor for the Thomas M. Cooley Journal of Practical and Clinical Law, participating in the Moot Court Board, Moot Court Competition Committee, and serving as President of the National Black Law Student Association.

Before law school, Mrs. Simmonds earned a Bachelor of Arts in History with Honorable Distinction from Oakwood University in Huntsville, AL.

Mrs. Simmonds is a member of the Florida Bar, having been admitted in 2012, and is an active participant in professional organizations such as the Gwen S. Cherry Black Women Lawyers Association and Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division. In her volunteer capacity, Mrs. Simmonds serves as the Director of the Public Affairs and Religious Liberty Department at Tabernacle Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
